Congratulations to all my friends that have qualified for Ironman 70.3 World Championship in Clearwater Florida on Nov 13th. There has been no changes or delays to the course due to our fine feathered British friends at BP. The course will still be “taboo†draft legal and the swim still off the coast of beautiful Clearwater beach. Can’t wait to see everyone there. Below is a great summary of the event and what to expect.
Ironman’s newest event property, the Ironman 70.3 Series, culminates with its world championship in Clearwater, FL. More than 1,800 domestic and international competitors will earn the right to compete in the Foster Grant Ironman World Championship 70.3 by qualifying at one of the 33 Ironman 70.3 events held around the world. Ironman 70.3 events consist of a 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike and 13.1 mile run.
Each age group winner in Clearwater will qualify for the 2010 Foster Grant Ironman World Championship 70.3 event. A professional prize purse totaling $100,000 will be offered.
The race will start and finish at Pier 60 on Clearwater Beach. The nearby Harborview Center and Sand Key Resort will host several of the pre-and post-race activities, including athlete check-in and the banquet functions.
The Foster Grant Ironman World Championship 70.3 event is supported by several local and regional organizations, including the City of Clearwater, St. Petersburg/Clearwater Area Convention & Visitors Bureau, Morton Plant Mease Health Care, and the Florida Sports Foundation.
